The Daffodil Chef Incorporated

In the fight against melanoma.
In memory of Steven.

The Daffodil Chef brings people together around the table — celebrating a much-loved chef's life and raising funds and awareness to help end melanoma.

Our Story

Born from love, and a determination that no family should go through this

The Daffodil Chef was founded by Maryce Scriven in memory of her husband, Steve Scriven — an accomplished chef who loved good food, great wine, amazing company and always had a smile on his face. Steve passed away from stage four metastatic melanoma at just 32 years of age, after only a 14 month battle.

"My hope is that no other family has to experience losing a loved one to melanoma."

What began in 2018 as a simple dinner of 56 people with their family and friends has grown into an incredible legacy honouring Steven. Today, The Daffodil Chef is an incorporated Australian charity, with its annual dinner now selling over 170 seats and raising over $100,000 towards Melanoma Institute of Australia.

Our Mission

Why we do what we do

Raise funds

We raise vital funds for Melanoma Institute Australia, supporting world-class melanoma research and care to drive better treatments and outcomes for Australians.

Raise awareness

We help more people understand melanoma — how to check their skin, reduce their risk, and catch it early.

Remember

We remember Steve and all those we have lost too soon to melanoma, supporting MIA's mission of zero deaths from melanoma by the end of this decade.

Our Events

Good food, good company, a great cause

As a charity, we now host events throughout the year — all in the spirit of bringing people together for melanoma research and awareness. Our flagship is the annual Daffodil Chef Dinner.

Suppliers & Supporters

A shout-out to those who help make it happen

We could never do this without the generous businesses and individuals who supply, sponsor, donate and stand behind us. Whether you provided goods, services, financial support or your time — thank you. Please show our supporters some love in return.

Where the funds go

Proudly supporting Melanoma Institute Australia

Each year, the funds we raise — after event costs — go directly to Melanoma Institute Australia, a national non-profit dedicated to reaching zero deaths from melanoma this decade.

MIA brings together researchers, surgeons, oncologists, dermatologists, nurses and scientists who pioneer new treatments and care. Much of their work is based at The Poche Centre in Sydney — the world's largest melanoma research and treatment facility.

ResearchClinical CareEducation

Around 2,000 new melanoma and complex skin cancer patients are referred to MIA each year — and Australia has one of the highest rates of melanoma in the world.
